What are Lumens?

Lumens measure projector brightness. More lumens = brighter image. The right number depends on your room lighting:

• 2500–3500 lumens — small dark rooms, home theater style setups
• 4000–5500 lumens — medium rooms with some ambient light, typical meeting rooms and small ballrooms
• 6000+ lumens — large venues, bright rooms, or anywhere you can't fully control the lighting
• 10000 lumens — large scale concerts, outdoor use, or very bright environments

When in doubt, more lumens is always better. A dim image is the number one projector complaint at events.

Front Projection vs Rear Projection

• Front projection — projector sits in front of the screen, facing it. Simple, common, requires clear line of sight from projector to screen with no one walking through the beam.
• Rear projection — projector sits behind the screen, shooting through it. Cleaner look on stage, no beam to walk through, but requires space behind the screen — typically 8–14 feet depending on lens and screen size.

How Big a Screen Do I Need?

A general rule of thumb: the back row of your audience should be no further than 8 times the screen height away. So a 7.5 foot tall screen (7'x10') works for audiences up to about 60 feet deep. A 10.5 foot tall screen (10.5'x14') covers up to about 84 feet. For large rooms, bigger is always better — people stop reading slides when the screen is too small.

Throw Distance

Every projector has a throw ratio — the relationship between how far back the projector sits and how wide the image is. A standard throw projector needs roughly 10–15 feet of distance to fill a 10 foot wide screen. Short throw projectors can fill the same screen from 3–5 feet away — useful when space behind the audience is limited. Always confirm your room layout before booking — we can help you work out the geometry.

Front vs Rear — Which is Right for My Event?

• Wedding head table with screen behind — rear projection
• Corporate presentation in a hotel ballroom — either, depending on room layout
• Concert IMAG (image magnification) — usually front projection or LED wall
• Trade show booth background — rear projection
• Small meeting room presentation — front projection
